About Me

My name is Julie Rose, welcome to my website for my passion which is designing, constructing and decorating home made, country style furniture and accessories.

After many years of being a stay-at-home mother I came to the realization that I needed to take back control of my life and to "follow my heart" to a new life. Always being involved in arts and crafts, doing everything from painting to sewing, knitting and deck building, I took the Carpentry Course at the local college and graduated as a Cabinetmaker. Since that time I have spent many hours reading all I could about woodworking from magazines, books and the internet and practising my trade by trying out different techniques and tools.

My products are mostly made of pine, a wood that reminds me of the country and simpler times. The furniture I make comes from plans I find or plans that I design myself, using photos for inspiration. Most of the joints I use are mortise and tenon, sliding dovetails and box joints which are made to last. I buy my wood rough and run it over the jointer and tablesaw and through the planer to get to the sizes I need. Pieces are stained or painted and often distressed to look old and worn, they are coated with polyurethane for protection. My products are one-of-a-kind and not mass produced, I hope you enjoy looking at them.

Special thanks to my son, Bryan, for designing and programming this website; my supportive husband, Eric, for always encouraging me and for building me a beautiful workshop; and to all my internet woodworking buddies who have given freely of their time and expertise to help myself and countless others to become better woodworkers.

I live in the country in Northern Ontario with my husband, teenage daughter, three dogs and a cat.
P. S. Don't forget to always "follow your heart."
